The Donnas |
“America’s Teenage Rock n’ Roll Machine” The Donnas were originally formed in 1993 when all four
members were still in eighth grade of high school together in Palo Alto, CA.
At first calling themselves Ragady Anne they played covers of
their favourite bands at the time, and entered a junior high school battle of
the bands just one month after forming. During high school, they kept
practising virtually every afternoon and moved into riot grrrl territory with
inspiration from bands like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile. In 1995,
the girls created Ramone-worshipping alter egos known as The
Donnas. Thus, (pictured left to
right) guitarist Allison Robertson, vocalist Brett Anderson, , drummer Tory
Castellano and bassist Maya Ford, became Donna R, Donna A, Donna C, and Donna
F. The Donnas have been well known for their energetic
teenage-punk, but despite what everyone thinks they’ve been growing up album
by album. If you like cute girly punk then The Donnas are for you. |
